Law enforcement bring barricaded subject incident to safe conclusion in Round Rock

It was a long hot Monday but several law enforcement, Fire and Williamson County EMS got the call and got it done safely. While it the incident had a safe conclusion it was very tense and trying experience for those living in the Round Rock neighborhood.

Around 12 noon on Monday Round Rock dispatchers received a call from a family member that an adult male stated he was going to kill himself.

Around 12:50 pm Round Rock Police issued a traffic alert on social media that Sunrise Road was shut down from Bradley Lane/David Curry Road to Bowman Road/ Tiger Trail while Officers respond to a potential barricaded subject in the 2300-block of Vernell Way and asked the public to please avoid the area.

Just before 2:00 pm Round Rock Police released a second report about the barricaded subject and also reported the possible of rigged explosives at the residence. APD bomb squad was called in and was on site. A few dozen homes nearest to the 2300-block of Vernell Way were evacuated as a precaution and asked the public to continue to avoid the area.

A shelter for those who were evacuated from the neighborhood was set up at the Allen R. Baca Center (301 W Bagdad Ave).

At 3:50 pm Round Rock Police spokesman released a statement that RRPD were still handling the report of a barricaded subject – one adult male. To this point, no active explosives have been found. Among the assisting agencies on-site were the APD Bomb Squad, FBI, ATF, WCSO Swat, and the Central Texas Regional Swat team.

Shortly after 4:00 pm announced the SWAT team was utilizing breaching techniques to gain entry into the house and that was the cause of the loud noise.

An additional information update at 7:15pm from Round Rock Police stated all devices have been determined to not be a threat. The roadways have reopened. Residents may return to their homes. RRPD Thanked to everyone for their patience.
