One person in the hospital following a shooting in Downtown Round Rock

Round Rock Police responded to a call at approximately 4:20 p.m about a reported burglary and a sound of a gunshot in the 100-block of West Main Street.

RRPD’s Original Post: “Officers are currently on scene in Downtown Round Rock following a report of a burglary and a gun shot in the 100-block of West Main Street.

The call came in at approximately 4:20 p.m. Two subjects are currently detained, one of which is at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There is no danger to the public. Portions of Main and Blair Streets will remain closed during the investigation.”

Round Rock Police arrested a suspect identified as Joshua Kim, 19, of Austin as a result of an investigation that he was burglarizing a vehicle in the 100-block of West Main Street at approximately 4:20 p.m. Friday and fired a shot.

Kim was reportedly burglarizing a vehicle when the owner of the vehicle encountered Kim, who then shot the owner of the vehicle. The suspect reportedly pointed the gun at another person as well.

When officers arrived on the scene they fired at the armed suspect but did not hit the suspect. Kim was then apprehended by the officers and charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated robbery with serious bodily injury. There are no other reported injuries.

The victim remains in the hospital with a gunshot wound and is in critical but stable condition.

The area was reopened around 10pm.

This is the second arrest in Round Rock in the last 30 days involving a person burglarizing a car and in possession of a firearm. August 6th Round Rock Police arrested Jack Whitaker III, 19 of Round Rock for burglarizing vehicles. When Police arrived to investigate a burglary call and confronted the suspect, he displayed a firearm and was shot by an officer.
