Round Rock Police respond to armed man in local hotel lobby.

This information is preliminary and is from a press conference held by the Round Rock Chief of Police, Allen Banks in the Hotel parking lot around 12:00 noon today.

Round Rock police received a 911 call at 9:45 am this morning stating a man with a hand gun had entered the lobby of the Home2 Suites by Hilton in the 1000 block of West Louis Henna Blvd. and was pointing the gun at people in the lobby and asking them if they wanted to die.

The Round Rock Police responded at the Hotel with in 5 minutes of the original calls and attempted to enter through a back door, however they could not gain access. Three officers then entered the building through the front door. When the police officers entered the lobby they encountered a subject with a hand gun. One officer fired their weapon and the subject was hit. The officers immediately render aid to the subject. The Round Rock Fire department then entered the building and also attempted to render aid to the subject but were unable to save the subject and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time that the subject entered the building there were guest and employee in the lobby area. Some of the people were able to flee the lobby and others locked themselves in offices. None of the other officers who entered the lobby fired they weapons and no officers were injured. The three officers that were in the lobby at the time of the shooting are on paid leave while the shooting is under investigation which is Round Rock Police policy. All the officers were wearing body cameras and the video is currently being downloaded.

The Hotel and the surrounding businesses were located down quickly after the police arrived on the scene and a portion of Louis Henna was closed.

At this time the name of the subject has not been released or where the subject is from.

The other law enforcement groups who will be involved in the investigation include the Williamson County D.A., The Texas Rangers, The Justice of the Peace and the FBI.
