When the detectives arrived around 8 am in to arrest John Christopher Crawson at home in the Paloma Lake neighborhood they discovered what appeared to be improvised explosive devices inside the home. At that point, the Sheriff’s department called for assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Austin Police Department Bomb Unit.
To safeguard the neighborhood, the Sheriff’s Department blocked off the area on Santa Barbara Loop and evacuated several of the surrounding homes. By mid-afternoon, ATF and the Austin Bomb Unit had safely removed all the explosive devices from the home. The Sheriff’s Department did not release the number of explosives that were found in the home or details on how they were constructed.
Mr. Crawson was book into the Williamson County Jail on Tuesday and is being charged with making a terrorist threat against a family member which is a third-degree felony.
Crawson’s wife recently filed for a divorce.
