Subject apprehended by Round Rock Police has been identified

Subject is being questioned regarding a shooting in Pflugerville Tuesday night.

The capture of a possibly armed and dangerous suspect on Wednesday morning in a Round Rock neighborhood was the result of a shooting investigation in Pflugerville Tuesday night.

Phillip Lara, a 33-year-old male was taken into custody around 10:30 on Wednesday morning near the intersection of Woodland Lane and Meandering Way in Round Rock by the Round Rock Police with the assistance of the U.S.  Federal Marshalls and Cedar Park Police Department.

At 10:15 AM on Wednesday the Round Rock Police issued a statement on social media that they were looking for a possibly armed subject in the area of Woodland Lane and Meandering Way. The message asked the residents of the area to stay in place and others to avoid the area.

Approximately 30 minutes later the Round Rock Police issued a second statement reporting a subject was in custody and that the noises that the residents heard were “Distraction devices” used to help apprehend the subject and they were no shots fired. The police finished up the investigation in the area and began pulling out of the area around 1:00 pm.

On Tuesday around 11:15 pm Pflugerville Police responded to a call and at the Autumn Ranch at Swenson Farms apartments on Swenson Drive. When they arrived they found a young, deceased male who had been shot. The victim has been identified as Kristopher Muldrew age 20.  

When the Police attempted to stop a man driving a car near the scene the man stopped briefly and then took off. The man was able to evade the police until the vehicle was located in a neighborhood in Round Rock Wednesday morning around 10:15 am.

Lara is considered to be a person of interest in the Muldrew’s death and is facing charges for evading the police. He is in Pflugerville Police custody being questioned by the Pflugerville Police investigating the shooting.
